Leather Halter/Bridle Combo
Western Bridles

Manufacturer: Tory
Model: Leather Halter/Bridle Combo
Category: Western Bridles

Purchase: I purchased this used online from a horse owner for $25. It retails for about $85. I bought it because at the time they were popular for trail riding.

Likes: I like that I can use this for training people how to ride. I give the rider reins and a bit so they have some control, but can also snap on a lead rope or lounge line for added security. This is especially nice for teaching people jump position, as many riders do not have a lot of control of their horses when they begin learning jump position. It is also useful for disabled students who are quite cognitively aware but lack the physical ability to give realistic signals. I haven't used it trail riding, but I suppose it would work well in such a circumstance, too.

Dislikes: If I had bought it new, I wouldn't have liked the price. It's high quality leather with nice brass buckles, so it is worth it for sure, but I wouldn't have bought it if I had had to pay full price for it. I am glad I have it, though. The only other thing is that the horse size only seems to fit a limited range of horses...it does not fit on either of my 17 hand thoroughbreds (too small), nor does it fit on my 14.2 hand Quarter horse (too big). Fine for horses approx 15-16 hands, which is a pretty narrow range. Of course, you can always punch more holes, but it is kind of to the detriment of the structure and function.

Quality: Soft, supple, pliable thin leather halter with attached bridle pieces for the bit. Brass hardware, oakbark, havanna, or black in color. High quality, durable, likable. Just choose your reins and you're set!

Summary: Great piece for training riders, and probably nice on the trail, too. Excellent quality and stylish. Works for english or western because it has the halter (noseband) underneath, which is adjustable at the chin for a snug or loose fit, depending on your riding preference. Bit pricey if not used for everyday.
