Purchase: I purchased this from Fleet Farm for about $40 for the can. I have cribbers and was hoping to save some of our wooden fences.
Likes: There is a lot of it; it is essentially like a paint can, so you can work with a lot of fence. It also seemed to work as long as it was reapplied every six months or so, as just like paint, it does come off. It can be used outside.
Dislikes: It is MESSY! We were intelligent enough to decide that we would try to put it on the fences on a windy day, and it stained all of our clothing with enormous brown spots. It is very drippy. The smell is quite overpowering when you're putting it on, like fresh paint.
Quality: This comes in a metal can and is available in clear (for twice as much, but probably worth the cost), or brown. The brown will stain everything...fences, clothes, fingers, etc. so wear gloves, wear clothes you plan to throw out, and don't use it on a fence that isn't brown (it looked terrible on our natural wood colored fences).
Summary: If cribbing is really a bother around your barn due to the amount of wood on your fences, this might work for you. Don't do it on a windy day, though. It did stop the horses from cribbing there, and even assisted us in finding places we missed (because the horses would seek them out). But it was very messy and we ruined a lot of clothing.
