Purchase: I have a horse who was extremely difficult. He reared and bounced and threw his head around and hit me in the face a few times with the back of his head. I tried an assortment of so -called 'gentle' bits including french link snaffles, sweet iron snaffles etc to no avail. One day I came across this bit in a local tack shop and asked to try it. Fortunately they allowed me to do this and it was the start of a beautiful relationship with my horse!
Likes: I call this bit his pacifier. He LOVES it. It opens his mouth for it before I even get it near his face! He is as light as a feather on it, responding beautifully at all times. He has not even come close to rearing since we've used this bit. I can't recommend it enough.
Dislikes: There is nothing I don't like about this bit - it is a wonder bit.
Quality: beautifully made, it is a plastic type - apparently tastes like apples though I tried it and couldn't taste the apple :-)
It is a typical pelham with ridges over the tongue and a smooth large linked curb chain.
Summary: I wish everyone would at least try apple mouth bits. I use an apple mouth Baucher bit on my little endurance horse with similar results (he loves it) All thoroughbreds should be ridden in apple mouth bits as snaffle bits are I believe doing more harm than good for these horses.
If you are having difficulty with your horse and can't put it down to teeth/back problems -try one of these bits!
