Purchase: After buying a horse with VERY high withers and a second hand saddle that didnt fit her that well (crunched for time and that one was the best fitting one) I noticed problems when she worked. My coach suggested a gel pad so i went and bought one (paid $65 for used). Within a couple rides I could notice a differnce, not in saddle fit but the way she worked.
Likes: I like how thin this pad is (1/4") and how easy it is to put on over the saddle pad. It didnt make my horse more sweaty underneath and for how thin it was, it made a HUGE difference in the shock and pinching of a less then perfect fitting saddle. The pad's gel never flattens or deteriorates...it stays the same forever...unlike things like foam pads!
Dislikes: I bought a white one and it is hard to keep clean, they do sell covers for them, or you can buy a black pad. I guess i just havent gotten around to buying a cover yet!
Quality: The pad is 1/4" thick and is about the length of the saddle pad (top) and about 1/4-1/2 of the width (down the side) of a saddle pad. It is covered in white thin fabric and the gel NEVER breaks down, or compresses....stays the way it is forever!!
Summary: It is great for any horse/rider. Even if your saddle fits it is a great shock absorber and overall makes your horses much happier about doing their job!!
