Draft Horse Black Australian Saddle
Trail Saddles
Manufacturer: Sydney Saddle Works / Frontier Equestrian
Model: Draft Horse Black Australian Saddle
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: After a long search for a saddle that would fit my apparently very broad and flat backed mustang, I purchased this saddle out of desperation.
I bought this saddle directly through Frontier Equestrian, however I purchased the package that they list on ebay. I paid less than $500 dollars for the saddle with stirrups and leathers, leather girth, upgraded pad, and upgraded bit.
Likes: The saddle fits! I had tried several other saddles (australian, western and english) that other companies said would fit based on wither tracings I had sent, but none fit correctly.
This saddle is very wide in the gullet and has a very flat bar angle. It is definitely wider/flatter than my Wintec Wide with the widest gullet installed.
I am comfortable in the saddle and I believe it will fill my additional needs of being secure and supportive for the beginning riders that will use it most.
Also Frontier Equestrian was fantastic to work with. I was able to order non draft sized bridle and different sized girth with no additional fee. The saddle came quickly and was well packaged.
Dislikes: Until I used a leather dressing one piece of the saddle, I can't remember which piece, maybe the inside of stirrup leather, had dye that would rub off on your hand. After I used a leather dressing I've had no problem with dye. Every thing else is great.
Quality: I had looked at Australian saddles at a local tack shop - they were stiff and looked poorly made. I must say I was expecting the same from this saddle - I was wrong. This saddle has good even stitching, the hardware looks nice, the leather is nice too. It is actually nicer than a competitors saddle that costs twice as much (and didn't fit).
The tree has a five year guarantee.
Summary: I like this saddle much more than I thought I would. The quality far exceeds what one would expect for the price, or even for a higher price.
The saddle is comfortable for both me and my horse.
Frontier equestrian is very easy to work with. When I called they took the time to make sure everything I was buying would fit, even items I didn't think to question.
