Purchase: I feel like every horse emergency kit should include a stethoscope, so I bought myself the Bantom stethoscope from KV Vet for about $6.
Likes: It was cheap and you can get some basic readings out of it, like gut sounds.
Dislikes: It doesn't work well and there can be a lot of interference, which is probably what you get for a $6 unit. I can't hear heartbeats and was hoping to use it for pregnancy detection in the mid to later stages of pregnancy, but it is not good enough for much beyond gut sounds.
Quality: Cheap plastic product with a one-sided chest piece and a chrome-plated internal spring.
Summary: I still think that every horse owner should have one of these, and not everyone wants to spend $50 or more on a decent one. This one will allow you to identify gut sounds, but don't buy it if you want to get a good reading for heart rate or to listen to baby.
