Horse Boots and Wraps
Manufacturer: BOA
Model: BOA Horse Boots
Category: Horse Boots and Wraps
Purchase: During November my farm had a warmblood mare with an abscess which was a result of the horse ripping a front shoe off during trailing. It was necessary to protect the foot while the shoe was off as we waited for the abscess to surface.
In the past we have utilized Easy Boots which are fine for stall bound horses but in this case the horse could go out as part of her daily routine. My wife and I decided to try the BOA Horse Boots from Jeffers ($135 per pair) because they appeared to be constructed well enough to stay on the foot even while ripping around the pasture.
Without a doubt, the product is excellent. The tensioning system is terrific and reliable. These boots were not only placed on the foot without the shoe but also on the other front foot with the shoe.
Likes: The BOA Horse Boots are very well constructed. This particular horse has a tendency to pull front shoes off while running in the pasture so part of her daily routine now is to have the boots on while out. We will also have them on her while trailering and are considering ordering other sets for remaing horses on our farm.
We do take the boots off while the mare is in her stall at night.
Dislikes: The only problem area is actually insignificant. The cap covering the tensioning knob tends to pop off. Being black in color they are sometimes hard to find in the pasture. I have spray painted the knobs international orange which has helped in the hunt tremendously.
However, I have seen some models of the boots that have the protective cap attached to the boot. Seems to be a better option when purchasing additional BOAs.
Quality: Quality of the boot is outstanding. After 60 days of use no wear is noted nor has the cable tensioning system failed.
These boots were well engineered and meet all standards as advertised by BOA.
Summary: Even thought BOA Horse Boots are somewhat pricey the long term benefits are a plus. Money invested in the boots to treat and protect horse hoofs is money well spent.
We would not hesitate to purchase the same product again.
