Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets

Purchase: My husband and I bought this (for him) at a local animal supply store for about $35 because he needed his own helmet if he was going to ride my horses. I had owned a Lexington show helmet previously that had saved my life, and I trusted the brand.

Likes: This was an interesting helmet. The "Lidlocker" part of it was actually adjustable side straps with velcro that made it so it adjusted to your head easily. But what did we really like about it? He got on a green draft horse during one of his riding lessons at our local stable and since he was on a lounge line and didn't have reins, when the horse decided to bolt and then throw in several bucks (and he fell on his head off a 17.2 hand belgian), the helmet cracked from the bottom to the top...but he walked away only a little bit sore. The helmet was shot, but his head was just fine. It did just what it was supposed to, and was worth all $35 (and then some!).

Dislikes: The removable visor was rather flimsy. It wasn't the most attractive helmet, but what can you expect for $35? There wasn't a lot of padding in it, either, but he thought it was comfortable enough even without a lot of padding. The "lidlocker" part held it in place pretty well.

Quality: This is an ASTM certified helmet, made of a dense styrofoam with a plastic outer shell. The visor is made of a flexible plastic-like foam. Chi straps are nylon. This is not a show helmet, but is certainly a good helmet for everyday use and does its job!

Summary: What can I say...both of us have used our Lexingtons to their fullest extent. This is a good helmet for general use and it saves lives. Mine certainly saved me and my husband's at least saved him some severe pain. Great price and an excellent piece of equipment.
