Purchase: This saddle was made by Circle Y for my Dad in 1968. It is still in like new condition with wear marks only on the stirrups and edges of seat where thigh comes down. My Dad needed a comfortable, well made saddle and this one certainly fit the bill.
Likes: It's overall construction is excellent. The embossing and buckstitching (yes, buckstitching) is very attractive. Since Dad has passed away, I have ridden on his saddle many times and I love the comfort, even after a long day on the trail or in the ring.
I plan to add silver and use this saddle to show my Paint mare.
Dislikes: I am only 5'3" and the saddle is heavy for me to put on a tall horse. Today's saddles are lighter, however, a tack expert claims that the heavier saddles are more comfortable for the horse than the smaller "postage stamp" types. They claim the weight is spread over a greater area, thus more comfort.
Quality: This is where this saddle excels. The leather is top notch, the tooling and attention to detail is excellent. Little embellishments such as a hoof pick pouch made right onto the rear skirt, the plentiful tie strings which are hard to find on good quality saddles and the built in padded seat add WOW, WOW, WOW to this saddle.
Summary: This is one of the best purchases our family has ever made in 55 years of purchasing tack. It is just as good today as it was then.
I would recommend Circle Y tack to anyone who wants top quality, attractive, long lasting equipment.
