Purchase: I purchased this online for about $45 because when I moved to another state my poor paint mare, with her very fine hair, was starting to turn pink all over from sunburn.
Likes: This certainly kept my mare from getting sunburned. It was soft and flexible, and she could wear it all the time when she was outside. It only tore in one small place, which is very good, considering it is not meant as a turn-out hood. She did not get rubs or sores from it, even though she wore it constantly. She was much more comfortable, even though she looked like she was wearing her PJ's all day, what with that and the fly sheet she wore.
Dislikes: She was a smaller girl, about 15 hands, so the medium tended to slip on her and irritate her eye. A small would have been too small, because she weighed about 900 pounds, but the medium was a tad too big. It fit very well on my 15.1 hand paint mare who weighs about 1000 pounds, but it did not fit on my littler mare. It was just the wrong in-between size.
Quality: Stretchy spandex material available in all colors and patterns. Attaches around the belly and goes over the head and covers most of the face. It didn't ride up or chafe her at all, and it kept her from being pink all the time, so I could ride her and not feel like I was hurting her. Rip-stop type fabric, easy to wash.
Summary: This helped my mare tremendously with her sunburn. I felt so much better having it on her, even if it meant that she looked goofy and it was a lot of extra work to put on and take off. She was comfortable in it, except that it was a bit big so tended to twist and irritate her eye. Occasionally I had to take it off to give her breaks for a day or two so that her eye could stop running.
