Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: I bought this boot on Ebay for about 90 dollars.
Likes: I didn't really like anything about this boot, which is a disappointment. I heard that Nittany's quality was pretty good and that it was all leather lined, but the lining was thin and cheap and in some places was peeling off. The only thing I liked about it was that there was a very cushiony, almost bubble-like insole that was very comfortable to walk on.
Dislikes: The listing did not have a real picture of the boot, only a stock photo. It was described as a side-zip boot, so I naturally assumed that it zipped along the outside, like all other side zip boots out there. When I received them, I found that they zipped UP THE INSIDE. I have NEVER seen any pair of riding boots that zip up the inside, probably because it doesn't make any sense. Placing the zipper there obstructs any contact the rider has with the horse. The stitching was pretty terrible too, in some places, the leather lining was coming off because it had ripped along the stitch. I did not have them long enough to break them in (sent them back right away) but the ankle is cut kind of strangely. It is very narrow so first of all, it would be terribly uncomfortable to break in, since it would fold and then rub against the achilles tendon. Secondly, it made my calf look very wide, even though it was only 13" around the widest part.
Quality: Not the type of quality I was expecting. The inside is what concerns me the most: it doesn't look like it'd last past a few weeks without the lining completely ripping apart. The boot pulls were also cheaply made. The tab on the outside of the boot doesn't seem to be made of leather and is affixed crookedly.
Summary: Overall, I would not recommend this boot to anyone. I've heard decent things about the regular field boot (without a zipper) but even without the weird inside zip, I found the quality to be unacceptable. I guess you get what you pay for, so even if I've lost the shipping both ways, I'll spend more next time and get a boot that is worth the money.
