Purchase: My mare was eating a legume-and-grass hay and her urine was orange. I noticed it on the snow. I knew that this was because her body was not properly processing the proteins that come in such high quantities in legumes. I knew that she needed anti-oxidants, so I got this to try to help her condition, so as not to wear out her kidneys.
Likes: It worked! After feeding this for about a week, her urine went back to the normal yellow color. It made me feel better, knowing that her kidneys were not working overtime.
Dislikes: It is in a liquid form. I don't like liquids because they're messy, sticky, and if they spill, you're out of luck. It also doesn't have a dosing bottle, but rather comes in a jug and you need to pour the right amount into a dosing scoop intended for solids. Messy!
Quality: Liquid with 50 IU vitamin E per ounce and 30 parts per million of selenium. This is a good antioxidant supplement for horses that do not need very high vitamin E supplementation.
Summary: While I would use something else for broodmares or horses with neurological problems, this provides an adequate amount of vitamin E for most horses. My mare didn't find it to be the most palatable, but it did work on her as far as getting her urine back to a normal color, despite being on a partially legume diet. I didn't like how messy it was, but I would recommend it to anyone who is not feeding straight grass and feeding clover or alfalfa, as those horses need more antioxidants.
