Purchase: My parents bought these for me for about $20 at Mary's Tack and Feed in Del Mar, california. They didn't like that I was using child's irons, which had come with my saddle.
Likes: They are a good looking iron that is very classic and functional. They come with rubber pads and don't rust, and the chrome doesn't chip off even after years of use.
Dislikes: The pads are a bit slippery. my parents bought me these irons was because my parents were afraid that with me using child's irons at the age of 17, if I fell off my foot might slip through the stirrup and it would get caught. The very first time I used my new irons I was exercising my thoroughbred gelding in the arena and it was spring, he felt good, and decided to throw in some bucks. After seven or eight I decided to fall off, so I let go, but lo and behold, my foot slipped through the iron and I couldn't get it out. I ended up bouncing on my chin a few times, losing half of a tooth and requiring stitches in my chin. Ironically, this had never actually happened with the child's irons; it was just a fear my parents had.
Quality: Heavy irons, chrome colored. They don't rust or chip, but the pads are slippery and I would recommend replacing them with better pads. These pads are white. The irons have held up for years of use. They are not the cheap ones you find with beginner's saddle packages or through discount tack outlets for $10, but actually not a bad iron.
Summary: Buy the irons but replace the pads.
