Purchase: As soon as I joined a local pony club, it was apparent I would need a good inexpensive English saddle. So my mom and I took a trip to the local STATE LINE TACK shop and took a look around. I paid $299.99 for the saddle.
Likes: The first thing that I really liked was the havana brown (reddish brown) it really suited the color of horse I have (red roan). The safety stirrup bars are made without the lock to prevent being dragged (liked that feature a lot.)
Dislikes: The leather quality is not that great, it is very coarse and the texture is rough and is not pretty at all. The leather is dyed poorly, judging how after a few uses the dye rubs off the saddle in the cantle area, and where the stirrup leather rub. Not only that but the dye WILL rub off on your breeches, especially white breeches. Now after having the saddle for a good 3 years, the coloring has completely worn off the flap under the leathers to expose a stained white color. The saddle seat is hard and uncomfortable after you ride in it for a while. The leather on the seat was so tight I had to buy a cashel get seat saver to save my seat bones from being ground down any further. The tree sizes run small, so for my 14.2 hand pony I have to buy a wide tree... any smaller would pinch his shoulder blades.
Quality: The leg flaps are very far forward, encouraging a contacted knee and places your leg way to far forward. Besides that the design and shaping is decent. AS for the leather quality, it is o.k. but I would suggest it for a serious shower but for more of schooling. After two years, I think only a single stitch has come out. so cudos for the stitching.
Summary: Kincade Saddles are good for beginners, amateurs and schooling shows, but for serious showing the little extra money is definitely worth it. Kincades are inexpensive and perfect for schooling shows. But the downsides are the leather quality. Beginners= kincade intermediate/advanced= (something way better).
