Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle via Ebay as it was a bit cheaper than the web site for Hilason. I paid just over $500 including shipping.
Likes: I love this saddle. I feel so comfortable and safe in the seat and I like that I can feel the horse and I know the horse is moving freely. I bought this saddle at the end of spring 2007 and have put many hours in it ... I have ridden 4 or 5 different horses in this saddle and they all had different backs and fittings ... but the Hilason was able to fit them all perfectly ... I grew up riding bareback and need to feel my horse to ride balanced and this saddle allows this without any issues.. it is a nice saddle, a bit nicer than a trail rider probably needs, but I like nice things ..
Dislikes: The biggest thing I don't like about the saddle is it is flat when not on the horse and therefor will not stay on the saddle rack in my trailer ... grrrrr but I prop it on its horn on a shelf in my trailer and it stays put with no problem ... also I rode in a 15 seat in my other western treed saddle and Hilason said to get a 16 as the equivalent and I feel is is just a bit small, but totally doable ...if I were to purchase a second one for some odd reason I would get a 17 inch seat ... ...but it is comfortable!
Quality: The leather seems to be of good quality I have had no issues... .. I am just a lowly trial rider and this is a pretty saddle ... the leather is tooled and their are silver conchos and plenty of D rings .. also a back cinch ring That I may put to use ... j
Summary: I loved my old saddle that was a circle Y and so comfortable.... I was hesitant getting a treeless, especially a Hilason since the reviews were all over the board. Many comments scared me, but honestly I had my other saddle for 4 years and paid $320 for it .... I just needed something that was not going to pinch my horse and I knew I had to go treeless... I am 5'9" and do not have any problems with the stirrup length.. the seat is comfortable and I have never felt insecure in the saddle and I ride pretty hard multiple times a week. usually at minimum 6 hours in the saddle and neither my horse or myself are sore .... LOVE it I think it is worth the money .... With me it is all about comfort and safety and I feel both of these when riding in my Hilason
