Purchase: Purchased from Jeffer's online for $55. Bug Armor is made of a screen material probably identical to what Cashel uses for its Quiet Ride Fly Masks. Bug Armor has a front piece which completely covers the neck, shoulders and chest and attaches to the front of the saddle (long ties give many options for this) and a back piece which covers the buttocks and flanks and attaches to the back of the saddle. My horse is very sensitive to fly spray and he'll start to buck if he gets one of those big horseflies on his butt so I decided to give this a try.

Likes: This is a fantastic product! I had been riding with a fly mask which extended over the top of my boy's neck but he had been miserable with deer flies eating his chest early in the season. On our first ride with Bug Armor, everybody else was whisking like crazy and their horses were still going nuts and my guy was relaxed and happy. This lovely state of affairs has continued all season and I haven't spent a penny on fly spray. The durability of the material is amazing. Three weeks ago my guy spooked badly and dove off the trail into brush so thick my buddies couldn't see me at all. When I emerged back onto the trail, I was covered with nasty scratches. Back at the barn, my boy had some scratches on his legs, but the Bug Armor was without a tear!

Dislikes: They need to make this stuff in more than one size. My guy is 15.1 and 1000lbs. and it fits him well (though a little snug at the throatlatch) but it would never fit my girlfriend's draft cross. Also, I'd like to see it in a lighter color. We ride mostly in the woods in Michigan but out in the open sun in the summer it would get too warm.

Summary: If you trail ride or even out in the ring are pestered by bugs, get Bug Armor. Considering the cost and typical efficacy of fly spray, Bug Armor is a fantastic deal.
