Purchase: I bought this saddle on eBay, used 2-3X, for $700. I decided on this saddle due to the price, slightly cutback head, leather, and panel construction.
Likes: The leather is amazing. It is really sticky- like Devoucoux buffalo leather! The seat is padded and the twist is more narrow. I also like that you can change the position of the rear block because of the velcro. The cutback head (slightly) allows a better fit on a higher withered horse. Because the leather is so soft, I like that an extra reinforcing strip of leather is placed at the bottom of the flap. The trees seem designated to fit the more TB type of horse, as a med fits my TB mare great with a thin pommel pad. Also, the channel is quite wide the whole length of the saddle and the panels are soft but very supportive. The balance is really pretty good- esp when jumping.
Dislikes: I am not a big fan of the fixed pencil roll, especially since I am long hip to knee. I think that the sweat flap is really stiff too, but I use a thick pad. Maybe it is an issue with a new saddle, but the tree points don't seem ideal sometimes. It does not fit my underdeveloped 2yo TB but yet still seems a little tight at the shoulder. The seat is a little wider than I would like too. The cantle is a little high for my taste.
Quality: Very high quality construction. The sweat flap and billet guard seem like cheap leather as does the leather under the good leather on the top flap. The panels are as nice feeling as my Amerigo. The stitching is symmetrical, tight, and classy. The leather on the seating/leg surfaces is soft and sticky so it feels instantly broke-in. Even at 2X the price I would find it comparable (not better than though) to a Pessoa.
Summary: For the price, it is well worth it. If it fits your leg and your horse, it is a steal. I think that the leather would hold up just great with regular conditioning.
