Purchase: I got this free from a friend who got it free when she got her english saddle. It retails for about $50.
Likes: This does give some comfort to the horse when using it for riding. It doesn't slide on narrow-withered horses, and is useful if you have a medium tree saddle you want to fit on a narrow withered horse
Dislikes: It is not bad, but I really don't use it. I prefer to fit a saddle to a horse and not try to make up for a poor fit. I probably wouldn't have paid money for it; I would rather invest the money in a well-fitted saddle. They are quite expensive for what they are and do.
Quality: This is a foam pad, kind of like styrofoam but not quite. Cushiony, but still hard; hasn't ripped or broken despite it's age (at least 7 or 8 years that I've had it).
Summary: Buy a decent saddle, don't get a cheap one and spend a bunch of money padding it up. You and your horse will be happier in the long run, and good saddles retail their value better than a bunch of misc. pads and cheap saddles. I have used this for therapeutic riding, when I have a rider with very poor balance or very special needs in his saddle and I desperately need to use that specific saddle but I also need a specific horse that is too narrow for the saddle. This is a rare circumstance but happens with disabled kids. It should not happen with typical riders; thus there really isn't an excuse for it.
