Purchase: My horse foundered after 3 ˝ years barefoot using the Natural Hoof Trim Method under a 46 year veteran Trimmer with the 1st 28 as a Farrier. Oh, I have heard since, that is not possible…..Ahh, but it is and it did! I hear I am the 1st. Not diet related, No founder stance but defiantly painful so off to x-rays we go on July 1st, 07 and low a behold, Rotation! Armed with advice from my VET at Loomis Basin, new Farrier-Trimmer, and 15 books later from Rei Redden to Hiltrud Strasser and 3 hoof dissections I was ready and so was Frankie Darling to take it on! Having witnessed too many ill fated horses with heart bar shoes being put down I knew I was not going that direction. Certain I could locate a happy medium between the two methodologies now that I was armed and dangerous I set out to find something that in no way even remotely restricted blood flow, provided coffin bone support, supported the rear weight bearing of the hoof, raised the heel just a little, allowed hoof mechanism and comfy as heck where he could still move freely as he saw fit. Reading Soft-Ride’s web site at www. Soft-ride.com I called them. They seemed like the answer to my prayer and if they were good enough for Barbaro then ..what can I say…. They could not tell me though if they would hold up in a pasture situation so I purchased them with the dual density insert. Firm in the back and soft by the toe with raised frog area. I paid $200 for the boots and $110 for the dual density inserts. They also come with the standard single density insert which probably would have been good enough for us as we had just caught the rotation. They arrived and the only thing I can say is they would be equivalent to the most comfortable pair of sneakers in the world!

Likes: : What was there not to like about them is the question. They should be renamed “miracle boot”. They are technically for any type of hoof injury and I don’t know why they have not gotten boot awards of the year from the Horse Journal. They are so simple to put on and off it is a miracle design. All of 1 minute. Frankie gave me the biggest sloppiest lick of his life after I put them on him and I knew instantly from that reaction. They are defiantly like comfy sneakers to a horse and within 1 hour of having them on he was trotting around his pasture as I cringed my teeth but all was well. He has been using them now for 2 months and they have survived running, bucking, rearing, playing, mountain climbing and you name it. Their durability and material far surpasses any of the riding boots out there. Never once have they come off and never once have I found any material – debris – sticks – sticky burs – or even “tee niney” pebbles in them. Unbelievably clean each time I take them off. That was a miracle as I was always finding stuff in the old Mac’s and Easy Boots. They have a unique design that works as the boot open up on the sides and that some how prevents anything from staying in there. I have seen more horn growth since wearing these boots than I have seen in the last two years. They give him major support in the heel and frog while relieving pressure from under the coffin bone and at the same time supporting it. Raised in the rear just a little to stop any pull on the coffin bone from the deep digital flexor tendon. He is ready to come out of them and having used 3 different riding boots I can say without question these are the best boots on the market and must have before your buddy gets an injury. I will make sure I always have a pair from now on and more than worth the money. Thank you to Soft-Ride!!! Now Soft-Ride can officially say they will hold up in pasture with a feisty 9 year old playful TB!! The only time I had any problem with them is when he got some mud on them and I was lazy and did not wash out the dust and mud from the Velcro very good. One side came loose and the boot turned just a little but the boot stayed on!

Dislikes: They have not put into development the design for their simple riding boot. I am waiting!! True story as you can contact me at nperspective@gmail.com if you have any questions however they are quite knowledgeable at soft-ride as the lady there helped me a lot and was very patient with me.

Quality: Unbelievable quality! 2 strait months of hard use by a 16.1 hand 1300 lb feisty active Thoroughbred under a milieu of conditions. All the materials in this boot are of the highest quality and appear as if they were made by a Medical Rehabilitation Company. Precision was a key factor to this company in the quality of this boot. The inserts look like they were made from a high technology material. They have held up to some very hard abuse. The minute he started wearing them you would have never know he was lame.

Summary: I would give them a 10 star out of 5. I cannot say enough however I believe I have said it all. I would strongly suggest for your buddies sake to do what it takes to have a pair of these on hand.
