Flame Barrel Saddle # 299
Barrel Saddles
Manufacturer: Rocking R Saddlery
Model: Flame Barrel Saddle # 299
Category: Barrel Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle from a local dealer for $800. The shop owner had several of these saddles and he let me test them before ordering. The company (Rocking R Saddlery) is based in AL , and they were awesome to deal with, asking lots of questions on how I wanted it exactly made. It took about 10 weeks for them to build it but it was SO worth the wait. I wanted a barrel saddle for my Paint horses that was a little heavier than the 20-25 lb. models so common on the market, and I liked that I could get it customized at no extra cost. (However I opted to get the saddle pictured as it is in their catalog)I also wanted something special and the Flame caught my eye because it's so different.
Likes: EVERYTHING! The saddle is solid, and very well put together. The craftsmanship is superb, the leather is nice and thick and the tooling is amazing. It weighs about 28-30 lbs. and has a fiberglass-reinforced wood tree, which I love. The seat has extra padding which I'm really happy about (lol) and it has Full QH bars so it fits my stocky horses beautifully, and the fleece underneath is nice and thick. It is more comfy than my Billy Cook.
Dislikes: The only thing that I didn't like was the wait, but the fact that it's built to my specifications proves that good things come to those who wait ;).
Quality: This saddle is tough, is comfy, looks beautiful, and comes with a warranty. The makers know what they are doing. The leather is American, and the silver is Montana Silversmiths. With the extra padding of the seat they were sure to tell me this would shrink the seat size by about a half-inch.
Summary: I Love everything about this saddle and am saving up to get some of their other models. I love that I can get a custom-built saddle for about the same price as a factory 'cookie-cutter' type saddle. The uniqueness of the Flame saddle is great too because nobody else I know has ever seen one like it, and I like to be different ;).
