Purchase: I researched Bosals, sidepulls and hackamores online for my foxtrotter mare. When I used a bridle with a bit on her, she would move with her head down moving it all around and her gaits were rough. I sensed that even though I tried a wide variety of bits, that they didn't work for her. I had been riding her in a Parelli rope hackamore and didn't feel I had sufficient communication with her.
Likes: There is more effective and subtle contact with my horse. And it also looks like a normal bridle unless one takes a close look. My horse moves out smoothly and gaits beautifully in it. Other folks had told me I had to have a bit with a shank on it in order for my foxtrotter to gait. That just isn't true. She gaits wonderfully in it. A trainer I subsequently worked with told me my mare's mouth is too short front to back for me to ever use a bit on her. Apparently the bit cannot get back far enough in her mouth where it is comfortable for her due to her small lips.
Dislikes: I haven't noticed any drawbacks so far and I've been using it for over a year
Quality: The construction seems better than average and it still looks great after a year of riding 4-5 days a week.
Summary: It works great for my horse! And I tried a lot of different types of equipment trying to sort out what works
