Purchase: this wasn't my most scientific purchase. I was buying my 1st western saddle switching out of a wintec dressage saddle for trail riding. I mentioned to the saddle fitter that my knees and ankles just start killing me after a couple of hours in the saddle, inquiring about the wide stirrups endurance riders use. A sales rep from Crooked Stirrups happened to be in the store and talked to me about their product explaining that the guys in the saddle in feedlots all day long use the crooked stirrups. That all sounded compelling to me and I ponied up the $140.00 for them
Likes: Well, I now ride a minimum of 3 hours and up to 5 hours hours at a time 4-5 days a week, just trail riding. My knees and ankles feel as good at the end of the ride as they do at the beginning of the ride. A riding buddy of mine who has had one knee replaced and has another knee that needs to be replaced but she is putting it off, bought the crooked stirrups after trying out mine. She loves them as well and can now do longer rides and her knees do not "kill her" forcing her to have to cut short her ride due to the pain.
Dislikes: The stirrups are aluminum and leave a grey aluminum mark on my boots. I sprayed them with a can of lacquer spray, several coats, and that seemed to end the aluminum stain.
Quality: They seem indestructible. They don;t look very "cowboy" but they sure work, so comfort wins!
Summary: You know if you're knees or ankles bother you after riding only an hour or 2, I sure recommend you try a pair.
