Chillblocker Gloves
Barn and Stable Misc
Manufacturer: SealSkinz
Model: Chillblocker Gloves
Category: Barn and Stable Misc
Purchase: I purchased SealSkinz Chillblocker (waterproof) gloves online from Karst Sports for $45.95.
Likes: Sounds like a lot? Try them for dunking your hands into frozen stock tanks to fish out chunks of ice... the gloves are 100% WATERPROOF, and easily wash-off-able, so I have started using them to poopick with. Just run them under water, and WHATEVER you've gooped on them simply goes down the drain! Amazing! I believe these were designed for cave exploration and ice climbing - they fit well and have a pimple grip palm and fingers so you can even ride with them AND safely hold the reins. I also have the Chillblocker socks and a regular pair of the SealSkinz waterproof gloves and they are incredible. They are NOT made of "sweaty" neoprene - not sure how they get the waterproof feature, but all of their products I have tried so far are superb!
Dislikes: What DON'T I love about them? Well, the price scared the heck out of me, but they are worth it. You may need to wear a fleece liner in them to absorb any sweat and ward off wind-chill. The gloves are fleece lined, but on REALLY cold days or after LONG dunkings in the stack tank, your fingers may feel the outside temp, although they will be DRY. I think SealSkinz makes liners for the gloves, but I just cut the fleece lining out of a ratty pair of "regular" gloves and they work perfectly.
Quality: Quality appears to be excellent! I have had them for about a month, and wear them 3 times a day - so far they appear to be able to handle pretty rough treatment. They LOOK cool too!
Summary: EXPENSIVE, but really high quality. Other companies make waterproof paddling and glacier gloves, but they are mostly neoprene - which I can handle for scuba diving, but NOT for regular wear (ick - sweat and no breathability). These do not seem to let a lot of moisture build up inside, so they are comfortable, flexible, warm and DRY, DRY, DRY!
