Purchase: I purchased this on sale from the L. L. Bean web site in spring 2007 for $70. I needed a lightweight casual jacket to use around the barn and trail riding.
Likes: I like everything about this jacket. I know that L. L. Bean is not a typical supplier of equine wear, but this meets all of my needs. The jacket is very water-repellent, almost waterproof, and messy stuff like beet pulp comes right off with a little water. It is lightweight, but warm, and has zippered vents under the arms in case you get too warm. The raglan sleeves give you plenty of room for arm movement, and the sleeves come down long and snugly enough that your wrists aren't uncovered and cold. The back of the jacket is slightly longer than the front, which is great for staying covered in a forward riding position, and there is a drawstring at the bottom in case it's windy. Hay slides right off this jacket. There's even a zippered pocket on the sleeve that's just the right size for your cell phone, and the side pockets are zippered as well.
Dislikes: Can't think of a thing that I don't like.
Quality: The jacket is very well constructed, with tight seams, quality materials, and nice details like soft nylon zippers that don't hurt your hands when it's cold.
Summary: This jacket has been a great buy, and I'm considering buying another as a backup, just in case anything happens to this one! Even though this company doesn't specialize in equine wear, this jacket is great for casual riding and barn work--English or Western!
