Purchase: I decided to buy a pair of ProChaps Half Chaps after reading an ad about them and then actually speaking to someone who already owned a pair. I purchased these outstanding half chaps, after an intensive on and off line search, through Briggs Stable Tack Shop in Massachusetts. The online price for these chaps are available for $149.99 to $169.99; however, my retail price from Briggs was only $129.99!
Likes: These half chaps are, by far, the best chaps I've ever had the pleasure of owning and riding in. The first point of interest is that you do not feel as if you even have chaps on, that's how comfortable they are. The second point is the incredible range of sizing, there is a calf and height combination to fit everybody and they have men's sizes too! Furthermore, they come in black and brown, they look great when paired with matching-in-color paddock boots and are so easy to zip up that you're able to get them on in a flash!
Dislikes: There is nothing that I don't like about these chaps; however, I feel that the Canadian based company (ProChaps) could make them better available to tack shops online and in stores. It was very hard to locate them, trial and error actually, but when I finally did, Briggs Tack Shop was happy to ship them out to me at a minimal cost (great store and great customer service)!
Quality: The leather is very durable but as some leather goes, you would expect that the durable aspect would compromise the quality of the chap, but that's not the case with ProChaps. The leather is smooth and beautiful and coupled with the stretch insert, the fact that you only have to deal with an easy-to-use zipper and no snaps PLUS the protected-from-urine under boot strap, you will not find a more perfect ready-made chap anywhere! As a matter of fact, these chaps feel just like they were custom made for your legs!
Summary: The equestrian consumer, both riding in the English and Western discipline, will not go wrong with a purchase of ProChaps. Yes, you heard right, the Western discipline too and that's because they make a style with the added benefit of fringe on the sides! Please keep in mind that these chaps also come in the full style too. In short, Pro Chaps are beautiful, functional and made with high quality materials and that's a combination that's often hard to beat!
