Purchase: I got these reins at a Ken McNabb clinic in central Oregon in May 2007. They cost $25.00 and are nine foot long with sissor snaps on each end.
Likes: I normally ride with split reins but while at the Ken McNabb clinic was talked into getting a set of these reins. They are made from a type of parachute cord and are nine feet long. This makes they long enough for a large or long necked horse and they are soft enough that they are easy to use on a shorter neck horse. The reins give good contact against the horses neck so that he knows when he is being asked to do something and yet are not stiff or sloppy. At 5/8" in diameter you can feel them in your hand easy and yet even a child can handle them. They do not get slick when wet and dry out quickly.
Dislikes: I wish that they were easier to get locally.
Quality: I just came back from gathering cattle in Central Oregon and used these reins on every horse that I rode and all of them responded to them nicely. The reins are heavy duty and the ends are stitched back so that they don't fray or unravel. The snaps are good quality and I have washed them and not had them rust. Important here in rainy Oregon. They come in a couple of colors including black, white and red.
Summary: These reins are the best trail riding and general use reins that I have ever used. All of my friends that have used them are ordering their own. I am getting three more of them so that I don't have to change them from bridle to bridle when changing horses.
