Purchase: I acquired the Easyboot from a local tack shop for $80 Canadian. It was a product recommended to me so that if my mare lost a shoe, I could still turn her out until the farrier arrived.
Likes: It does what was intended, it was a great way to make sure her hoof didn't get chewed up when she lost a shoe. It was easy to put on and seemed comfortable for the horse.
Dislikes: It's constructed so that there is a cable loop that tightens the boot, well every good horseman knows that "loops" of anything is trouble for horses.
It happened that my mare was able to get the Easyboot off, and then my gelding managed to get his foot in between the boot and the cable so that it was wrapped around his ankle. I'm very fortunate that he did not panic or get caught on anything because that very strong cable was in the perfect position to slice his tendons. To save my mares hoof could have caused me one dead gelding or at least one lame one for life.
The chances of the above happening is slim but it did in this case and I won't take that chance again. Our Easyboot is now in he trash
Quality: Seemed decent quality, cable won't break, that's for sure. I did however notice that for the few days we did use the product, it did rust.
Summary: Good idea but I wouldn't risk to use it again, maybe general riding but that's not why we bought it. For the money, we should have went for the Old Macs instead.
