Likes: I have to keep halters on my horses while they are in their paddocks and at night because our stable owner requires it (his staff won't put on a halter if they have to lead your horse). I like rope halters best, but they are too strong for "all the time use", and the Safe T Strap is the best solution I have come up with to make them 24/07 "safe". The Safe T Strap can be buckled through the loop on the cheek and the regular loose ends of the rope halter then tie THROUGH the loop made by the nylon Safe T Strap (short, about 2 inches) and buckle. You don't take the ends OUT of the loop to take the halter on or off, you just pull them out almost to the end and the halter slides on or off. Takes about 2 minutes to figure this out. We also use this Safe T Strap on our nylon hands free trail collars, but NOT on the lighted collars (as the plastic buckles on them would break anyway if the horse got caught up). The straps work on flat nylon halters too, and give stretch or will break if the horse goes backwards (a bit like a break-away halter). This was the ONLY system we could come up with for use with a rope halter. I do NOT use the strap when I do ground work, as the horse has to have everything be even on both sides, but for the paddock and stall at night, this solves the problem of HAVING to have a halter on them, yet knowing they won't break their neck if they get stuck on anything. I have seen one of the horses pull back with the strap, and it seems that the elastic "gives" enough to stop panic and the horse walked a step forward and was fine. This is from a horse who I have seen sit back twice in utter panic (not to break a halter, just spooked), so the difference is great!
Dislikes: Could be made for rope halters with a slightly different "shape", or a rope halter could include some kind of safety feature. I KNOW a lot of people leave halters on their horses 24/07 for various reasons, why can't someone work with this information and come up with "the perfect" product?
Quality: The Safe T Strap has nylon and a metal buckle - quality seems OK, even after about a year of continuous use.
Summary: Saftey, safety, safety... I do my best, given the requirement to have halters on the horses all the time. It might not be perfect, but I don't have to worry as much about them getting stuck in a halter that won't give or break in an emergency.
