Purchase: I bought this, a brass bit, and a matching bridle from a woman used online for $75 for the set. The reins run new for about $19 through SS tack.
Likes: Because these reins are not overly thick, they are easy to use, even though I have small hands. The rubber is brown so it matches the rest of the combination. The leather isn't so stiff that it is hard to get onto the bit.
Dislikes: The rubber is rather stiff. This makes it more difficult to ride, as it is harder to close my hands around the reins and have an effect.
Quality: Modest to Mid-grade leather, mid-grade rubber, somewhat stiff and inflexible but durable and usable. Has lasted several years (and a fire)
Summary: Okay reins if you want to try out rubber. If you want serious rubber reins for everyday use, I recommend Courbette, which are much softer and more flexible.
