Purchase: I bought my Billy Shaw in about 97 or 98 and have been riding it nice and hard since. I bought it at a tack shop near my house and paid $450.00 for it.
Likes: I LOVE this saddle. It is so comfortable and has endured so much. It has been with me through many rodeos and also I added strings and used it when I spent a summer packing in Wyoming. Have used it in just about everything and it is still holding up wonderfully. I have used it on everything from an arab in reining to a barrel shaped foundation qh pushing cows and it seems to fit many varieties of horses nicely. Also not a lot of tooling on mine which I like. I has an oak leaf and acorn pattern which suits me.
Dislikes: Mine is a round cut skirt and after about a year the skirt has sort of bubbled. It has not affected performance but does look odd. And even though it is a barrel saddle a place to add more strings or even strings added on would be nice esp for slickers in the rain. Also the stirrups could go up a little further. My mother and I are both 5 foot tall and it fits me but my mothers inseam is shorter and she can not reach my stirrups.
Quality: Very well constructed. Good stitching, firm tree, nice thick quality leather. Seat is very comfortable. Easy to adjust stirrup length even while mounted.
Summary: I love this saddle and am looking to purchase another one soon. It has been my old faithful friend and would highly recommend it for someone wanting quality at a good price.
