Purchase: Ordered from the Jeffer's holiday 08 catalog pg 45 in Oct 2007 for $50 for use during trail riding. Wanted good looking tack that is adjustable in its use something that will hold up and be strong enough for a spooky bolting race horse. Thought it would live up to the Jeffer's name since they did put it in the catalog under their name but it is made by Derby Originals (per the packaging).
Likes: The the thought of the design is great. But most halter bridles, for the most part, are of the same design. No awards here for being in front of the pack. Like the leather design and 1 5/8" crown. The price was great for what I thought I was getting.
Dislikes: Would like to see the big circular piece (to hold the chin strap to the headstall) removed. They are huge (two inches across). This isn't a biggie- more the traditional look. The brass circles, and many buckles aren't polished and they have many blemishes ("keeps its good looks"- didn't even start out good). Not another huge biggie.
Quality: Construction and quality is shoddy. The worst is that the leather quality is cheap. Real cheap leather that feels like that rubber type rein that looks more painted then leather tanned. Jeffers also advertised in the description that it was "doubled and stitched leather throughout". The under cheek strap (first thing to break if not creamed) is single not stitched, curb strap same, and the bit straps too!,the reins are also single and not stitched. Looks like 2 manufacturers put this piece together. CHEAPLY!
Summary: Bottom line...I'm calling Jeffers tomorrow to check their return policy. I'm upset that Jeffers would put their name on this piece.
