Purchase: I bought this product after trying almost everything else for my persistent cribber. I tried The Miracle Collar, which worked but only when it was so tight that it caused nasty sores, tried Creosote and other paint on products, tried the Best Friends Anti-Cribbing Muzzle, which broke in two days, and tried two other muzzles which didn't work because my horse cribbed right through them. This product, Bitterlicks, was bought online from www.bitterlicks.com for approximately $70.00 for 6 16 oz. containers of concentrate.
Likes: I can't really say that there was anything I liked about this product. They have testimonials on their website from happy customers, but it did not work AT ALL for my die-hard cribber. In fact, he cribbed in the spot I applied it about 5 minutes after I applied it and even seemed to like the taste! I guess if I had to say one positive thing about this product it would be that it goes on clear.
Dislikes: In my opinion it's a terrible product that does not work, and is a waste of $70.00 Not only did it not work for my horse, but also didn't work for my trainer's horses who are wood chewers. In addition to not serving its purpose as a deterrent for cribbers/wood chewers, it also gets everywhere when being applied and it left a nasty taste in my mouth for hours. (I didn't eat it, just that when you're applying it the taste gets in your mouth just from the air)
Quality: Once again, poor quality in my opinion as it did not work.
Summary: If you have a die-hard cribber like I do, one that cribs on anything he can get his teeth on, and a horse that cribs even when living outside like mine does, don't waste your money on Bitterlicks. It just doesn't work, as simple as that. My advice would be to consider cribbing surgery. It's expensive, but is supposed to work, so that's what I'm going to consider. For my horse, nothing else that I've tried so far has worked. Good luck, and hopefully something will work for your cribber!
