Purchase: This cost $26 through tack room inc. I bought it because my mare has been a cribber since she was four years old (despite being an outside horse her whole life). I had previously tried several other types of cribbing devices, such as the miracle collar (no effect), nutcracker style halters (minimal effect), and a custom crib strap I had made by a company from Missouri (worked great, but I do not remember their name and now I live too far away, and they do not ship. Eventually the dog got it and ate it, end of that one).
Likes: The leather quality made me hesitant to put it on a horse on 24/7 turnout. The leather was soft and supple, certainly at Tory standards that I've come to appreciate in other tack.
Dislikes: Didn't work. I'm not a big fan of the leather products, anyhow, because they tend to stretch, but even brand new this one tends to slip around her neck every which direction and she can crib even with it on the tightest hole.
Quality: This is a nice quality leather product, better leather than the miracle collar and works the same on my horses. Seems durable, although she's only had it two months.
Summary: I'm still trying to figure out what the name of that company in Missouri is that does the custom nylon crib straps. They worked wonders; I bought four (one for each of my cribbers). There is not a whole lot I have found that works for cribbers: this style didn't work, the nutcracker style didn't work on any of them, the miracle collar didn't work on anyone, the cribbing halt for fences didn't work...there is also a surgery but my knowledge from working at a veterinary university is that it only works 60% of the time. The only product I have found to work at all is the nylon and velcro one from Missouri, but it does cause scarring and is only available if you go to their store.
