Purchase: I am a middle-aged disabled rider who decided to return to riding last year after a ten year lay-off using my horse who had been at pasture for the same time period. With a horse in his twenties and my need to recondition as well, I decided to purchase the Wintec 2000AP at a local tack shop (price around $600) for several reasons.
Likes: I bought this particular saddle for four reasons - first, the equisuede seat for security in grip. Second, the adjustable gullet to both fit my current horse and a future second younger horse. Third, the CAIR panel which protects my horse's aged back as well as any discomfort I might cause him due to my back and knee injuries affecting my balance riding him. Four, the ease of care which helps my wrist arthritis - all I do is use a soft brush after riding. In the past year the saddle has outperformed on all four counts to the point I just purchased a Wintec Isabel Dressage saddle too. I find this AP saddle to be extremely comfortable for me and my horse in the arena and especially out on the trail in all weather conditions. It has virtually no wear marks yet. I have survived several spooks and a potentially dangerous fall in my physical condition simply from the equisuede which I do not slide in at all!! My horse responds to my aids as if there is nothing between us and does better at Training Level now than he ever did in the nine leather saddle models from flat to dressage I had in the past. He moves freely from the shoulder and never is sore. This is the best saddle I have ever owned. I also purchased the matching equidsuede stirrup straps and synthetic girth when I got the saddle. They have been equally easy to care for and performance oriented.
Dislikes: There is nothing I do not like about the Wintec AP saddle outfit. I cannot say enough about the quality, safety, durability and value.
Quality: The materials used are superior for synthetics. I was very impressed with the elegant appearance of the equisuede and equileather used. This saddle and its fittings are very easy to use daily in all conditions. My horse sweats alot when being schooled and this saddle breathes well and the girth is so chafeless I was able to dispense with a girth cover altogether. The fact the saddle is so light was a big factor in fitting my horse who is cold-backed and he has never objected to being saddled with the Wintec. Additionally, the CAIR panel makes using any kind of extra saddle padding to protect the back obsolete.
Summary: I was so satisfied with this equipment purchase I e-mailed Bates of Australia (the manufacturers) with my testimonial. They enjoyed it so much they requested permission to use it in advertising which I granted. I think this says it all!
