Purchase: I purchased this blanket in Fall, 2006 from www.sstack.com. I believe I paid approximately $120.00. I wanted a decent quality, mid-weight turnout blanket for my rescued Thoroughbred gelding, who is on the thin side and does not grow a very good winter coat. I was hoping to spend a minimal amount of money because, knowing him, I was SURE he was going to ruin any blanket I bought him within just a few months.
Likes: This blanket is amazing! I have a very active 16-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, who refuses to age gracefully. He thinks he's 16 going on 7!!! He and his pasture buddies make a game out of trying to tear off each other's halters, fly masks, blankets, etc. My horse wore this blanket nearly every day last winter, and he's on turnout 24/7. The blanket not only survived all of the "horseplay," but it looks almost as good as it did the day I took it out of the box! It is completely waterproof, and the high neck really helps prevent moisture from running down the horse's neck and into the blanket, without the need for using a hood. Also, Schneider's customer service was excellent! They even contacted me a few months ago to make sure I was still satisfied with the blanket, and to check to see if I needed any more rubber bands for the surcingles (which I did, and they sent me some for free)!
Dislikes: There's nothing not to like! The only thing that broke was the little rubber bands for the surcingles, and that will happen on any blanket just due to normal use. Again, Schneider's replaced those rubber bands for me, completely free, and without my even asking! It's nice to know that some companies do still care about customer service! :o)
Quality: As soon as I took the blanket out of the box, I was very impressed by the substantial feel of the waterproof fabric ~ it's almost rubbery on the outside, but very soft on the inside so it seems like it would be comfortable against the horse's skin. And, my horse didn't show any signs of blanket rubs whatsoever, despite wearing the blanket almost every day last winter ~ I didn't even see one broken hair!
Summary: This is an excellent quality blanket at a VERY reasonable price. I have friends who have bought blankets costing twice as much (or more), and those blankets were completely shot after just one season. Buy this blanket!!! You and your horse will love it! And no, I don't work for Schneider's ~ just love the blanket! LOL! ;o)
