Purchase: I recently purchased a "v-rigging" for my horse. This is also known as a "Packers Cinch" and is sold by Crestridge Saddlery (www.crestridgesaddley.com) under the brand name "Supra-Cinch." It sells $61.35.
I ride and Arabian x Quarter horse gelding. He is flat backed or "mutton withered." I have not been able to find a saddle and girth combination that would stay in place without slipping backwards or rotating around his middle. Several times the saddle slipped around the horse’s middle and I found myself on the ground. I have tried various non-slip saddle pads and many other cinching systems without success. In the past I have had to resort to extreme tightening of his girth. Unfortunately this made him very uncomfortable. It also placed unequal forward pressure on the front of the saddle causing it to tip forward and push the felt saddle pad out.
Likes: This is an excellent system. There is a square shaped central belly pad with four arms extending, one from each corner. These arms attach to the front of the saddle with latigos similar to the usual girth. The back arms attach to the back cinch rings. This provides equal distribution of the cinching pressure throughout the bars. The result is that the saddle stays in place. Over-tightening is not necessary and the horse is comfortable. It will KEEP your saddle in place! No more galling your horse. No more slipping!
Dislikes: The Supra Cinch is a little bit more cumbersome when putting the saddle on than a conventional girth. But once you have the system adjusted to your individual horse, it's no big deal.
Quality: It is made of doubled heavy nylon within the girth and the outside layer a cloth that is immersed in a rubber/latex formula resulting in a strong extremely secure girth.
Summary: In my opinion this is absolutely the best way to cinch a saddle. I believe everyone should use this system whether or not they have experienced slipping problems. Your horse will love you for it.
