Model: Caprilli Event Saddle with CAIR Panels
Category: Jumping Saddles
Purchase: I am in the business of riding many horses who have different body types. Some have large round barrels with low withers and some are thin with high withers. I would actually have to ride in 3, sometimes 4 different saddles throughout the day simply because each horse required a different saddle that could fit their body types properly. The other problem I discovered was that just because the saddle may fit the horse, didn't always mean it would fit me.The distance between the cantle and pommel would be too short for my seat, or the leg flap and knee roll wasn't designed to fit my long legs. I had enough of wasting money on saddles that couldn't do their job. I researched the Bates Saddle company and they designed a new Eventing saddle. Their claim was that it could comfortably fit a majority of horse's backs and long legged riders, while lending a secure close contact seat with it's extra forward flap for Eventing. My local tack store ordered me one to try and I absolutely loved it! After going through so many saddles and being frustrated with horses that came up back sore, I purchased the Bates Caprilli Event Saddle with CAIR Panels. At the time when I bought it, it cost $1500. I've been watching it being advertised in many tack magazines and have noticed it's price increasing with it's popularity. Now my problem is what to do with all the other saddles that are collecting dust!
Likes: The saddle is designed beautifully, with quality leather. It has a close contact seat that allows the rider to sit balanced, giving them enough space from the pommel to cantle for their lower back and pelvis area. This is an important feature to have when jumping large fences. It has extra forward flaps that places the rider's leg in the proper position for greater contact to the horse's girth while jumping and galloping. It's wonderful for longer legged riders. The CAIR panels in the saddle acts as a cushion on the horse's back, and sits more evenly and doesn't have uncomfortable pressure points. The rider's weight is distributed properly. The interchangable gullet system is the best feature because you are able to take out whatever gullet you are using and replace it with a different size, depending upon the size and confirmation of the horse you're riding. It also has moveable blocks that adjust to the rider's leg position. It's many saddles built in one!
Dislikes: The only thing that I think could be improved, is the choice of color. Presently it only comes in havana.
Quality: Designed with the Event rider in mind. It has a forward leg flap for proper galloping and jumping position over large fences. A close contact seat with CAIR panels that gives security to the rider, and saves horses from sore backs. It's interchangeable gullet system can fit any horse's body type, and is especially important if you ride young horses because their bodies are constantly changing and developing as they are in training.
Summary: This is a wonderful saddle that is designed to give comfort to any horse's back, and also fit the rider at the same time. The saddle will save you money and frustration.
