Manufacturer: Rodrigo Pessoa
Model: Generation X 313 triangle knee rolls no thigh rolls
Category: Close Contact Saddles

Purchase: I purchased this 18" Pessoa Rodrigo Gen X saddle from a rider who had bought it new then never rode in it as she lost weight and could fit back into to her previous saddle. It had no marks on it and still had the white waxy coating that brand new saddle have on them. There were no indentations on the billets to show that this saddle had ever even been on a horse. I paid $850 for it. I have always rode in a 17" but as I approach my mid 40's I have packed on some pounds in the rear and I decided that i would be more comfortable in a 18" saddle.

Likes: This saddle is VERY, VERY, cushy and comfy and actually took some getting used to as I had always rode in a firm seated saddle. The leather has a grippy feel. I like the subtle feel of the triangle knee rolls. I feel secure in this saddle but don't feel like I am being walled in as I do in a saddle with firm knee rolls. The Newmarket color oils up into a gorgeous dark honey tone. I appreciate the exquisite quality of the leather. Maybe I could get a purse & belt to match. This is simply a beautiful saddle!!

Dislikes: The stirrup bars do not have enough bevel on their edges. These sharp corners are hard on my stirrup leathers when I pull them through to change my stirrup length. I have not been able to find contact information for the Pessoa Company to ask if this is normal or perhaps a flaw in my saddle. Also, the stitching that attaches the saddle flaps to the bottom panel underneath the knee roll came undone in the first 24 hours of use of this saddle. I'm speaking of the whip stitching that goes to the three little cotton tuffs on "legs" of the foam panel. I have to find a saddler to repair this for me.

Quality: I appreciate the fine quality of the printed French leather and the grippy buffalo hide. I really enjoy the effect of the bi-flex flexible foam used in the springy padded seat and equally cushioned triangle knee rolls. The foam panels appear to be gentle on my horses backs and conform to ride well even on our 22year old gelding who has been really tough to find a saddle that works for him. As mentioned above I do have couple minor concerns about the construction of this saddle.

Summary: I fell in love with this saddle as soon as I settled my tush into that cushy seat. I don't know if I'll ever make it back into the show ring but this saddle makes school so much more pleasant.
