Purchase: I paid $1000 for this saddle in April of 2006 from a saddle shop in Pennsylvania. I bought it because I hauled my horse to the shop and had her fitted, and this saddle looked comfortable for both her and me.
Likes: Very comfortable seat. The trail stirrups are great.
Dislikes: Several things: first, the flex tree in this saddle is NOT made for heavy riders. It sored my horse so badly she finally laid down on the trail. She had been shying away from the saddle for weeks. I was later told this type of tree (with the rubber bars) should not be used for riders over 185#. Second, the leather used in the saddle was very stiff and even after a year did not break in. Third, the bar flare and width was extremely odd and didn't fit ANY of my gaited horses very well.
Quality: I think Big Horn could use better quality leather. The construction appeared to be ok. I would suggest they switch to a different type of flexible tree and avoid the rubber bars.
Summary: I would not recommend this saddle to any heavy riders. There is no support and the bars end up bending and creating a fulcrum effect on the horse. It may work fine with lighter riders.
