Purchase: I had a new horse, and my saddle didn't fit her at all. I knew she'd be changing shape as I brought her into work, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I'd already been burned buying a used saddle with a warped tree. After that experience I wanted a decent quality NEW saddle. I also thought I might want to try skijoring, so I wanted a pretty sturdy saddle. I mail ordered this one from Schneiders for a bit over $400

Likes: The saddle was an ok price. It's synthetic, including the roughout seat, so I didn't mind abusing it. The stirrups kept my heels in a good line with my hips and shoulders (not a chair seat like some western saddles.)

Dislikes: I had to get the fenders shortened so I could raise the stirrups enough. My normal jeans inseam is 30 inches--not really long, but not petite either. The guy who shortened the fenders said it was a tough job; his machine didn't like sewing on the material. The fenders never really broke in fully, even after I stored the saddle with a pole through the stirrups, so the stirrups always tend to turn to the outside. I've got a bad habit of gripping with my knees. The saddle flaps hit me in just the right place to leave horrible black and blue marks inside my knees. The saddle is surprisingly heavy for a synthetic-heavier than most of the leather and wood tree western saddles my friends use.

Quality: The saddle is just a smidge narrow in the shoulders for my broad chested Quarter Horse. It's ok for my slightly lighter built mare, and it would probably be ok for a more appendix built Quarter Horse. I haven't had any mechanical failures with this saddle--it's built like a tank.

Summary: I think this would be an ok saddle for someone needing a cheap extra saddle for weekend guests or if you know you are going to be abusing your tack.
