Purchase: I bought this saddle from a near-by tack store. I thought the flex-tree would give my horse more freedom of movement. I was also looking for an alternative to a heavy western saddle. I searched the internet and the tack store matched a price of $1450 brand new.
Likes: This is a very comfortable saddle to ride in. I can go on long rides without stiffening in my knees. It's only 26 lbs, which is much more manageable for be then the heavier conventional western saddles. The leather was very soft and felt "broke in". The saddle is really beautiful and I just couldn't resist it!
Dislikes: My horse is high in the withers and the saddle never really fit him correctly. I thought it would flex to his shape but it seems to lean to one side and I'm getting uneven sweat marks. Although it may be conforming to his shape it's causing me to feel lopsided in the saddle. I tried it on my Appaloosa mare whose conformation is a bit better. I still felt like I was sinking on the left side. I don't know if the flexible tree is getting worn although I have only had the saddle for 6 mths.
Quality: The construction and quality are good. The leather is beautiful and soft. I do have my doubts about the longevity and practicality of a flexible tree.
Summary: I wish I could trade this for a conventional saddle. I would prefer to deal with the extra weight then to feel like I have to adjust to an uneven ride. I don't think I would try another flexible tree saddle, but I would buy another Circle Y saddle because it is very comfortable.
