Close Contact Saddles
Manufacturer: Crosby
Model: Prix De Nations
Category: Close Contact Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle used from E-bay for $150 dollars with shipping because it had a scratch down the middle of the seat. I bought this saddle with the intention of changing over to english riding, hunters specifically.
Likes: I absolutely adored the leather on this saddle! The leather was like a pancake. I could practically spread out my saddle in the trunk of my car without any worries about damaging it. Every time I would get it back out of the trunk, viola! it regained it's shape!
This saddle, with a medium tree, also fit every horse I put it on with one exception- an incredibly broad racking horse mare. It fit everything from my quarter horse arabian mare to a stocky appaloosa and paint horse.
Dislikes: The only thing I don't like about this saddle was the fact it had a regular flap.
I suppose it doesn't help that I'm 5'8" with a 34 inch inseam either.
This saddle also has a scratch down the seat, but I keep it covered.
Quality: The quality on this saddle was amazing; the leather (like a pancake remember?) was so smooth and soft. The tree was still sound and strong, and is at least 10 years old.
The construction of the saddle was elegant and simple. The plain flap help me to realize that yes, I do really have to ride off my seat and thighs, not by pinching with my knees. The seat has never felt to deep; it has always felt just right for flat work and jumping.
Summary: I would recommend this saddle for anyone wanting a quality made saddle that doesn't break the bank, especially those who are starting out.
This saddle's fault wasn't having long enough flaps for me, but the flaps are fairly long for a regular length flap.
The saddle was made for anyone wanting to do equitation, flat work, and smaller jumps. I found this saddle was very correct in balance and helped strengthen my position.
All in all, I must say I truly love my "pancake" saddle!
