Purchase: I loved the fact I bought this saddle for 1600/no fittings. I bought it at a local tack shop in Hillsboro Oregon, and they treated me very well.
Likes: I LOVE this saddle. I moved up from a wintec 500 dressage. In my heart I always wanted a leather saddle, but WILL not spend big bucks on a saddle that I can not adjust to my horse, so I will always buy Bates or wintec. I am sure there are more splendid saddles out there, but If they won't fit the horse I own or will own in the future it is a waste of money for me. The fit is perfect for me and it is a great saddle. I love the extra strap at the girth that if for holding down the flaps. I almost cut it off being that I have never had one before, and didn't understand the purpose. It does however make it difficult to adjust girth from saddle.
Dislikes: That Wintec and Bates do not let you buy the saddle with the tree that fits your house. You automatically have to buy another tree when you buy the saddle unless you happen to have a medium tree horse. I have yet to have one and now I have 4 extra trees and have spent a hundred dollars I do not think I should have had to buy. I think Bates should allow the dealer to give the buyer the size they want when they buy it.
Otherwise I will only buy this brand of saddle and I love this particular saddle.
Quality: Very well constructed, well thought out for the comfort of the horse as a priority. Beautiful leather. Nicely balanced for the rider.
Summary: I have pretty much said it all. I love this saddle!!!
