Purchase: I bought this saddle used on eBay for about $500. It is the older model that only came in brown. I don't know exactly what year it is, but it is definitely older.
Likes: I LOVE the position this saddle allows me to take! I have problems with my balance and this saddle helps me out a lot, but does not "place" me anywhere. It simply lets me flow into my horse. It has a lovely deep seat and small to moderate knee rolls that provide some support, but aren't overbearing. My horse has a big trot and this saddle helps me stay with him. The quality is also great, with very soft leather and solid construction. My instructor borrowed this saddle when she took her horse to a combined test, and she said that despite his leaping in the air and spooking at EVERYTHING, she never felt like she was going anywhere. That's a definite plus!
Dislikes: I don't like what the previous owner did to the billets- they are covered in a sticky, glue-like substance that comes off on the buckles every time I tighten my girth. They also are pretty cracked, which along with the sticky goop is eventually going to cause me to have to replace the billets. Of course, this has very little to do with the saddle itself (and I don't know what kind of abuse it took before coming into my possession) but regardless it is a problem I have had with the saddle.
Quality: This saddle is very well constructed with beautiful, soft, leather despite its age. It has a beautiful, deep, rich brown color. The billets need to be replaced but this is a problem with most old saddles.
Summary: I absolutely love this saddle! I would buy another in a heartbeat. They don't make them like they used to...
