Purchase: I got these when I first started riding, and my trainer told me that I needed them. I wasn't sure I did, so I didn't want to spend much. These were around $30 at a local tack store.
Likes: They are so easy to take care of! When they look grungy, toss them in the wash and they come out looking almost new. They also fit well - I have very large calves, which makes me hard to fit. The elastic makes them great for multiple leg sizes. The colors can be fun - one of the girls at the barn has purple, and my daughter wants them, too! They also have good "grippy-ness" making riding much more comfortable. One more thing - when it is HOT outside, they are still comfortable. I rode in 105 degree heat with them, and was fine.
Dislikes: They do stretch a little easily. I ended up at a local show without my tall boots (OOPS), so wore them with my breeches and paddock boots. Part way though a class, I felt them slide down and ended up with a lovely sore on my leg. I usually wear them with jeans, so that helps. However, when washed, they are fine again.
Quality: Overall, pretty good. The zippers are heavy, the snaps still working after a lot of use. The fabric is holding up well - I've had them almost a year now and ride several times a week at least and they aren't showing any major wear. Others at the barn who have much more expensive ones are impressed that mine are wearing as well or better than their expensive ones.
Summary: These are great half-chaps for anyone who doesn't want to spend a fortune on them, or who wants some that are easy to keep clean. These are awesome for a beginners, kids or amateurs.
