Purchase: I bought these boots in October 2004, they cost between £40 and £50 a pair, depending on size. I bought about three sets for three different horses. The reason was to attempt the keep my horses legs clean in the field and therefore prevent mud fever.
Likes: I like the boots as they are long covering from over the coronet band to right up to under the knee, and on the hind legs , just below the hock. They are well shaped so fit snugly round the horses legs, with a special bell shape which allows them to sit over the coronet band. The fastenings looked secure and also easy and quick to do being velco. I was also loathed to leave my horses out in boots all day but these are made of special breathable neoprene material.
Dislikes: There was much to like about these boots and they seemed ideal for the job. However I found that rather than fit snugly they did on all the horses move about so that mud was able to get under the boot and set up infections. Not matter how tight the boot was done up it could not hold it in place. The velcro rather than being quick to put on was a nightmare! It took ages to get the boots off as the velcro was so strong, so you ended up plastered in mud. After just a few weeks several of the velco straps were ripper off. I would also add that the neoprene material has small dots, and after a few hours the horses came back with dots on their skin, so I was rather concerned that the material was not "breathable" as claimed to be!
Quality: The quality of the material is good, however I do not think it is suitable for turnout boots. The construction of the boots was not sufficient as it did not withstand even one months use.
Summary: I would not recomend these boots. The theory is good and it would be possible to work with these boots, as some of the ideas are good, to achieve a turn out boot - however as they are at present they are not suitable for the job.
