Purchase: I purchased the Rhino Wug from Dover Saddlery, and had an excellent experience. Initially, I ordered a 78" blanket (they run in 3" increments - buy a size down, i.e. if your horse measures 76, buy 75, not 78) and it really was too big. I returned this blanket and they promptly mailed me the smaller size for no additional shipping. I paid 149.00 but this blanket which was not on sale at that time (It later sold for about 100.00 at the end of season sale). I have had several interactions with Dover and all have been satisfactory.
Likes: I am in my 3rd winter with this Wug. It has worn very well, no rips or deterioration. It has also maintained its waterproofing and does not leak. I don't wash it too frequently, and the manufacturer recommends washing with delicate detergent, on delicate cycle and drip dry. Actually I have washed it with normal detergent and put it in the dryer and it is still waterproof. The color is a checked pattern, very attractive. The Wug is advertised honestly and is a quality product and does exactly what it says it does and does polish the coat, and the high neck does keep the rain out. As my horse has grown, I will need to purchase a new one for next year, and plan on replacing the Wug with the same model. Others in my barn have the same blanket and are also satisfied. None have ripped. Also, I have not had any problems with the straps coming undone, and the blanket stays in place quite well.
Dislikes: There really anything negative I have to say. The product is as described. Each thickness (lite, medium or heavy) comes only in one color.
The single elastic rear strap in under the tail and will get pooped on and quite dirty. The design is good and I like it better that the crossover ones between the legs and you don't need to undo it to put on or take off. It really does get dirty, though.
Quality: The Wug has a high neck that is scalloped to fit the neck of the horse, and comes about half way up. It has a V front closure to adjust for the high neck and take pressure off the shoulder. The filling has stayed in place - I have the medium weight. There is a single strap under the tail, no elastic straps between the legs, see above.
Summary: Excellent product, durable, attractive, and great design. Plan to be a repeat customer.
