Purchase: I ordered this product from Dover Saddlery, and I paid about $65.00 for it. I bought my first Troxel helmet many years ago when I started falling off, I mean, riding horses. I thought this model looked very appealing, and I like the durability of the Troxel helmet.
Likes: I really have liked all the Troxel models I have purchased over the years. The Legacy Gold has just improved on many good qualities. First, the appearance of the helmet is very attractive. It is stream line and very light and cool on those hot summer rides. I bought the helmet in blue and it has a nice matte finish, and the finish does not get scratched up easily. The top parts of the harness are leather, which adds to the comfort and class of the helmet.
Dislikes: I have not found any flaws with this helmet.
Quality: Now, for the import safety information. This helmet is tough! I had one fall where I hit the back of my head and I walked away just fine with minimal outside damage to the helmet, but when closer examined, it had done its job. The one impact foam had compressed and saved me from a devastating injury. The next fall I had in one of these helmets was one where I landed face down. Because the helmet is well made and the visor is attached to the actual helmet, I did not break my nose, just the visor cracked. Since the helmets are made of one impact foam, Troxel has this wonderful policy where they will replace the damaged helmet for about half price within two years.
Summary: If you want a helmet that will proctect your head, be of high quality, and be attractive and light to wear, then the Troxel Legacy Gold will meet your equestrian needs.
