Purchase: Santa was nice enough to bring me Storey's Barn Guide to Horse Health and First Aid for Christmas. It retails for $24.95 and can be purchased off Amazon.com and through other retailers.
Likes: Storey's Barn Guide to Horse Health Care is a comprehensive, although easy to follow and use flip-guide for a new or experienced horse owner. It covers a variety of topics that are relevant to keeping a healthy horse all in one place. The Guide also discusses diseases and common ailments but from a triage standpoint to help the owner determine when to call the vet.
Dislikes: I have not found anything I dislike about this book yet although I am interested to see how well it will hold up in the barn environment. It is technically a spiral bound paperback although the front and back cover is heavier cardboard. It may have been helpful for the inside of the Guide to be tabbed for quick reference if it is left hanging on a barn wall.
Quality: The Barn Guide is constructed of heavy laminated cardboard for the front and back cover with glossy paper interior.
Summary: The Barn Guide appears to be a concise manual for horse care and health maintenance as well as emergency care and handling. I am interested to see how durable the unit is, however at the cost of $24.95 which is relatively cheap for the amount of information it contains I would have no difficulty replacing it in several years if it pays off in usage.
