Purchase: I won these Ariat Cameo Chap Changers, along with the Ariat Cameo Chaps, from Horse Tack Review almost a year ago.
At local stores, the chap changers retail for around $30.00 Cdn without taxes.
Likes: I like that you can change the general look of your half chaps by changing the placket.
All the changer is, is a narrow strip of leather with velcro on the back which attaches to the half chap. The leather strips (you buy them in sets of 2) come in a variety of designs.
I chose the more subtle Bridle Stitch pattern, but there are 4 other designs to choose from.
Dislikes: I find that after a lot of use, the edges of the changers have frayed a small bit (the velcro edges).
It doesn't affect how the changer works, or sticks to your chap, but from time to time, I check to make sure that there are no little strings hanging.
Quality: A narrow strip of leather with velcro on the back. To change the placket, you just "tear" the placket off and replace it with another design.
The leather is Ariat quality - very supple and even.
I see that Ariat has just come up with another changer design: Snake Print.
Summary: A neat idea, I love the idea of the changers. For shows I use the regular black placket that came with the chaps.
For schooling or training, depending on my mood, I'll use one of the more fun designs. Since I'm happy with the changers, and will buy more again, I'll give these a 5.
